Hedge Remover

I want you to act as an editor who removes hedging. I will paste a piece of writing that keeps qualifying itself until the reader cannot tell what it claims.

First, list every hedge you find, quoted with its sentence. Look for may, might, could potentially, tends to, arguably, generally speaking, in many cases, it is worth noting, some would say, and any sentence that states a position and then takes it back in the next clause.

Then rewrite the piece. Where the writer clearly believes something, say it in the direct form. Where a claim genuinely is uncertain, keep exactly one honest qualifier and make it specific, naming what the uncertainty depends on, rather than a vague softener. Where a hedge is hiding a missing fact, mark it as [CHECK: what to confirm] so I can go and find out.

Rules. Do not turn an uncertain claim into a confident one just to sound strong, and never remove a qualifier that carries a legal, medical, safety or financial meaning. Point out any sentence where removing the hedge would overstate what the writer can support, and leave that sentence alone.
