Copy one, fill the brackets, paste it into Grok. Under the prompts: which mode to pick and how to make Grok search X properly.

Most prompts written for ChatGPT run in Grok unchanged, and the ones on our ChatGPT and Claude pages are worth trying there. The prompts on this page are different: each one is built around something Grok has and the others do not, or has in a different shape.
The mode picker in the Grok app decides how hard the model thinks, and it matters more than the wording of most prompts. As of October 2026 the app offers these modes:
| Mode | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Fast | The default. Quick answers, rewrites, short X lookups |
| Auto | Lets Grok decide how much reasoning a question needs |
| Expert | Research briefs, fact-checks, anything with several sources to weigh. Paid plans only |
| Heavy | The most effort Grok spends on one question, for the hardest research. Top paid tiers |
| Build | Making a small web app, site or game. Included on the free plan |
The X prompts on this page work in Fast for a quick look and give fuller, better-sourced answers in Expert. The Cited Research Brief is written for Expert or Heavy. Older guides tell you to press Think or DeepSearch; those buttons are no longer in the picker, and Expert and Heavy do that job now.
Grok decides on its own whether a question needs a search. Ask about a news story without saying so and it may answer from what it already knows, which stops at its training date. Four habits make the answers current and checkable.
Put together, a question you can type from memory:
Search X and the web now. What are people saying about [topic] in the [last 24 hours]? Give the facts several sources agree on, the main points of view with one linked post each, and a separate list of claims you could not confirm.
Counts are the place to be careful. Grok reads a sample of posts, not all of them, so «most people are angry» means «most of the posts it read». The Brand Mention Monitor asks it to say how many posts it read, which tells you what every number rests on.
Grok Imagine makes images and videos from text or from your own picture. Two of the prompts on this page, the Imagine Image Prompt Writer and the Imagine Video Prompt Writer, have Grok write those prompts for you in the shape below.
Describe the picture in plain sentences: the subject and what it is doing, the setting, the framing and camera angle, the light, the style, the colours. Text that must appear goes in quotation marks, spelled exactly, with where it sits, because the current image model renders words well and will use what you give it. Choose the shape before you generate: the app offers 2:3, 3:2, 1:1, 9:16 and 16:9.
A ceramic coffee mug on a pale oak table by a window, morning light from the left, shallow depth of field, eye-level close-up, warm muted colours. The mug is printed with the words "First, coffee" in a simple black serif. Product photo style.
A text-to-video clip is made in two steps: Grok draws an opening frame, then animates it. So describe the opening frame first, as a still picture, then one continuous motion, then one camera move. Clips come with sound, so say what it should sound like. Fit the action to the length: a 6-second clip holds one action, not three. When you start from your own photo, describe only the motion, camera and sound, and leave the picture alone.
Opening frame: a paper boat on a rain puddle in a city street at dusk, neon reflections in the water. The boat drifts slowly toward the camera as raindrops ripple around it. Slow push-in, low angle. Sound: soft rain and distant traffic. 6 seconds.
Every image and video carries a Grok watermark. Video is part of the paid plans; the free plan includes images.
A lot of what people share as «Grok prompts» is about adult content or about getting around Grok's filters. We do not publish either, on this page or anywhere on the site. The filters also change from week to week, so a prompt that depends on slipping past one tends to stop working. Everything here is meant for work and stays useful when the rules move.
| Plan | Price | What changes for these prompts |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Chat, images, Build and limited X and web search; no Expert mode, no video |
| SuperGrok | $30 a month | Expert, video, higher limits |
| SuperGrok Plus | $100 a month | Much higher limits and 1080p video |
Prices as listed by xAI in October 2026. xAI also lists Lite and Heavy tiers, and X Premium+ includes SuperGrok. Paid plans draw from one weekly allowance shared by chat, Imagine, voice and Build, so a few long videos use up the same budget as a day of research. Our Grok review keeps the full price table and how Grok compares with other assistants.
Yes. The free plan includes chat, image generation, Build mode, voice and a limited amount of X and web search. Expert mode and video need a paid plan: SuperGrok is $30 a month and SuperGrok Plus $100, as listed by xAI in October 2026. X Premium+ also includes SuperGrok.
When it searches, it reads posts as they are now, so it can follow a story that is minutes old. When it does not search, it answers from training data that stops months earlier. Grok decides for itself whether to search, so start the prompt with «search X and the web now» whenever the answer has to be current.
The writing and feedback prompts do. The X prompts lose their point: other assistants can search the web, but they cannot read X the way Grok does, and most posts are hidden from them. The Imagine prompts are written for Grok’s image and video model, though the image ones work in other image generators with small changes.
In October 2026 the Grok apps and grok.com run Grok 4.6 on every plan. A newer Grok 4.7 is out for developers through the API and coding tools but had not reached the apps when this page was written. The prompts do not depend on a model version; the mode you pick matters more.
