Claude theme-factory skill

theme-factory is an Anthropic example skill that styles what Claude makes. It offers 10 ready themes, each a color palette and a font pairing, and applies the one you pick across a whole deck, document or page.

A deck where every slide uses slightly different colors looks unfinished. Anthropic's theme-factory skill fixes the palette and fonts before Claude styles anything, then applies them the same way everywhere. It is one of Anthropic's open-source example skills, under the Apache 2.0 license. This page covers how it works, how to install it and when another skill fits better. For background, see how Claude Skills work.

What the skill does

The skill describes itself as a toolkit for styling artifacts such as slides, documents, reports and HTML landing pages. Each theme has a color palette with hex codes and a pairing of header and body fonts. The steps in its SKILL.md:

  1. Claude shows you a showcase PDF with all ten themes.
  2. It asks which one you want and waits for your answer.
  3. It reads that theme's file and applies the colors and fonts throughout, checking contrast and readability.

The ten presets are Ocean Depths, Sunset Boulevard, Forest Canopy, Modern Minimalist, Golden Hour, Arctic Frost, Desert Rose, Tech Innovation, Botanical Garden and Midnight Galaxy. If none fits, Claude can generate a new theme from a short description, show it for review, and then apply it.

When to use it

  • Giving a deck from the PowerPoint skill one consistent look.
  • Matching a report and a one-page HTML summary to each other.
  • Trying a few looks quickly before you commit to one.

If your company already has brand colors and fonts, write them into a skill modeled on brand-guidelines instead of picking a preset. For report text, our business prompts help with the content itself.

How to install it

Claude.ai: the anthropics/skills README says the example skills are already available on paid plans. Look under Customize > Skills, with code execution turned on.

Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
/plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skills

Example request

Try it
Use the theme-factory skill. Show me the themes, then apply the one I pick to this [deck / document / page] about [topic] for [audience]. Keep the content as it is and change only colors and fonts.

Limits

  • It sets colors and fonts. Layout, images and the content itself come from you or another skill.
  • Fonts named in a theme need to be available where the file is opened, or the viewer substitutes others.
  • Anthropic labels its example skills as demonstrations and advises testing them before you rely on them.

FAQ

Can I add my own theme?

Yes. Ask for a custom theme from a short description, or add a theme file to the skill's themes folder in your own copy.

Does it work for Word documents?

The skill names documents and reports among the things it styles. Pair it with the Word skill for a .docx file.
