Frontend Slides: web slide decks from Claude Code
Frontend Slides is a coding-agent skill by Zara Zhang that builds a slide deck as a single HTML file, from a brief or from an existing PowerPoint. It shows you three styled preview slides first, then builds the whole deck in the one you pick.
/plugin install frontend-slides@frontend-slidesAsk a coding agent for a presentation and you usually get either a plain PowerPoint or a web page that scrolls. Frontend Slides makes a real deck that runs in the browser: one HTML file with its styles and scripts inside, slides on a fixed 1920×1080 stage that scales to any screen. It can also take a .pptx you already have and rebuild it as a web deck. The repo by Zara Zhang passed 30,000 GitHub stars; the license is MIT. If you need an actual PowerPoint file, Anthropic's PowerPoint skill is the one to use. For the basics, see Claude Code skills.
How a deck gets made
- You describe the talk, for example "a pitch deck for my AI startup", or point it at a
.pptx. - It asks four questions, including density: low for a talk you'll speak over, high for a deck people read on their own.
- It builds three single-slide previews in different styles. It ships 12 presets, plus a pack of 34 bolder templates from the author's other repo.
- You pick one, and it builds the full deck in that style and opens it in your browser.
- Optionally, it deploys the deck to a public Vercel link or exports a PDF.
The skill has hard layout rules: nothing scrolls inside a slide, at most four to six bullets per slide, and content that doesn't fit is split onto a new slide rather than shrunk.
How to install it
Claude Code, as two separate prompts:
/plugin marketplace add https://github.com/zarazhangrui/frontend-slides
/plugin install frontend-slides@frontend-slides
Then run /frontend-slides:frontend-slides. The README says to use the full HTTPS link, because the short form may try SSH. To install by hand instead:
git clone https://github.com/zarazhangrui/frontend-slides.git ~/.claude/skills/frontend-slides
and run /frontend-slides. In Codex, OpenCode or Gemini CLI, give the agent the repo link and it follows the SKILL.md. Converting PowerPoint needs Python with python-pptx; deploying and PDF export need Node.js.
What to know before you use it
- Fonts load from the web. The skill requires fonts from Fontshare or Google Fonts, so the "single file" still fetches fonts when it opens. Offline, it falls back to whatever the browser has.
- Deploy and PDF download code. Deploy runs the Vercel CLI through
npxand publishes a public link; PDF export installs Playwright and a Chromium download of about 150 MB on first run. Both are optional steps you choose. - PDFs are snapshots. Animations are lost, and local images must be served over HTTP to show up.
- Quiet repo. The last commit was in June 2026. It works, but don't expect fixes soon.
When to use it
- Talks and pitches you'll present from a laptop or share as a link.
- Turning a dull .pptx into something that looks designed, without opening a design tool.
- Decks you'll keep editing with an agent, since it's all one HTML file.
For speaker notes that match the finished slides, our speaker notes prompt works on any deck.
