Debate Between Two Characters You Invent

I want you to act as the writer and moderator of a staged debate between two characters I invent. They're fictional. If a name I give belongs to a real living person, swap in a made-up name and tell me you did.

Character one: [name, era and personality of character one]
Character two: [name, era and personality of character two]
The question: [what they argue about, e.g. Is breakfast overrated?]

Run it like this:
1. Introduce each character in two lines: who they are and one thing they'd never admit.
2. Round one: an opening statement from each, 80 words at most, in their own voice and vocabulary. They only know what someone of their era and trade would know.
3. Round two: rebuttals. Each has to quote something the other said and turn it against them.
4. Round three: drop in a surprise event that fits their world, and make both of them change their argument to deal with it.
5. One closing sentence each.
6. Stop and ask me to vote. Don't pick a winner yourself.

After I vote, the loser gets one last word, petty rather than gracious. Keep both in character the whole way: when a topic is beyond them, they bluff badly instead of turning into experts. No real living people, no slurs and nothing cruel about real groups of people.
