Understand Anything plugin for Claude Code
Understand Anything is a Claude Code plugin by Egonex AI that runs a multi-agent pass over a project, saves a knowledge graph of its files, functions, classes and dependencies, and opens it as an interactive dashboard you can search and ask questions about.
/plugin install understand-anythingThe README opens with the problem: you join a team and the codebase is 200,000 lines. Understand Anything has Claude read the project once, record how every piece connects, and show it as a graph you can click through, with a plain-English summary on every node. It's MIT-licensed and also runs in Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI and other agents. For the basics, see Claude Code skills.
What you get
- A structural graph of files, functions and classes, color-coded by architectural layer, with fuzzy and semantic search.
- A domain view that maps code to business processes: domains, flows and steps.
- Guided tours through the codebase, and an onboarding guide for new team members.
- Diff impact: what your current changes touch.
- Knowledge bases as well as code: point it at a folder of linked markdown notes and it graphs those.
The graph is saved to .ua/knowledge-graph.json in your project.
How to install it
/plugin marketplace add Egonex-AI/Understand-Anything
/plugin install understand-anything
Other agents install with a script from the repo that clones it to ~/.understand-anything/repo and links the skills. Codex users type $understand, since Codex doesn't use slash commands for skills.
Commands
| Command | Does |
|---|---|
/understand | Analyzes the project and builds the graph. Later runs only re-read changed files. Add a folder to scope it, or --auto-update to refresh on every commit. |
/understand-dashboard | Opens the interactive dashboard |
/understand-chat | Answers a question about the codebase, for example how the payment flow works |
/understand-explain | Deep-dives into one file or function |
/understand-diff | Shows the impact of your current changes |
/understand-onboard | Writes an onboarding guide |
/understand-domain | Extracts business domains, flows and steps |
Try it
/understand-chat I need to change how [feature] works. Which files and functions are involved, in what order are they called, and what else depends on them?
When to use it
- Your first week on an unfamiliar repository.
- Before a refactor, to see what depends on the code you're about to move.
- Writing onboarding material for a team.
To keep what you learn across sessions, pair it with Claude-Mem. To review changes once you start editing, use the bundled /code-review.
Limits
- The first
/understandreads the whole project and can use a lot of tokens on a large codebase. The authors recommend a subscription plan or a local model for that first pass. - On a huge monorepo, scope it to one folder, for example
/understand src/frontend. - The summaries are written by a model. Check them against the code before you rely on a tour for anything critical; they're a map, and maps can be wrong.
