Prompt Master: Claude writes the prompt for you
Prompt Master is a skill by Nidhin Joseph Nelson that writes prompts. You say what you want and which tool it's for, it asks up to three questions, and returns one prompt shaped for that tool, ready to paste.
A prompt that works in ChatGPT is a poor fit for Midjourney, and a Cursor prompt needs different detail from a Sora one. Prompt Master keeps notes on more than 30 tools, from chat models and coding agents to image, video, voice and automation tools, and writes the prompt in the shape each one expects. It's instructions only: five text files, no code, no network calls. The repo passed 14,000 GitHub stars; the license is MIT.
How it works
- It works out which tool the prompt is for.
- It pulls out what you want across nine points, such as the goal, audience, format and constraints.
- It asks at most three questions, only about what's missing.
- It quietly picks one of 13 prompt templates and cuts filler words.
- It returns one block to copy, plus a single line on the approach it took.
It also keeps a short memory block of decisions from earlier in the chat, so a second prompt doesn't undo the first. It switches on only when you ask it to write, fix or adapt a prompt, not for ordinary writing or coding.
Things to ask it
- "Write me a prompt for Cursor to refactor my auth module."
- "Here's a bad prompt I wrote for ChatGPT, fix it: …"
- "Generate a Midjourney prompt for a cyberpunk city at night."
Or type /prompt-master and your request.
How to install it
The author recommends the Claude app: download the repo as a ZIP from GitHub, then in Claude go to Customize, Skills, Upload a skill. In Claude Code you can clone it instead, though the README marks this as the less suggested route:
git clone https://github.com/nidhinjs/prompt-master.git ~/.claude/skills/prompt-master
Limits
- Tool notes go stale. The last update was in August 2026, so details for fast-moving models may be out of date. The skill says it checks official docs when it can browse and labels details it couldn't check.
- One prompt, not a chain. It deliberately leaves out multi-step methods such as prompt chaining and tree of thought.
- Ignore the tagline. "Zero tokens wasted" is marketing, not a measured result.
When to use it
- You use several AI tools and don't want to learn each one's quirks.
- Fixing a prompt that gives vague or off-target results.
- Image and video prompts, where structure matters most.
To try the idea without installing anything, our free AI prompt generator runs in the browser, and our Claude prompts are ready to paste.
