Claude internal-comms skill

internal-comms is an Anthropic example skill for workplace writing. It gives Claude a set format for weekly team updates, company newsletters and FAQ roundups, and asks the right questions for anything else.

Weekly updates and company newsletters are repetitive writing with house rules about length and format. Anthropic's internal-comms skill writes those rules down once so Claude follows them every time. It is one of Anthropic's open-source example skills, under the Apache 2.0 license, and it is short enough to read in a few minutes and rewrite for your own company. If skills are new to you, see how Claude Skills work.

What the skill does

The SKILL.md lists the jobs it covers: 3P updates, company newsletters, FAQ answers, status reports, leadership updates, project updates and incident reports. Claude first identifies the type of message, then loads one of four guide files:

  • 3P updates (Progress, Plans, Problems): a team name and date range, then one to three sentences per section, written to be read in 30 to 60 seconds and backed by numbers where possible.
  • Company newsletter: about 20 to 25 short bullets grouped by area, written in the "we" voice, with links to the documents and announcements behind each item.
  • FAQ answers: the questions many employees are asking, each with a one or two sentence answer.
  • General comms: for anything else, Claude asks about the audience, purpose, tone and format before writing.

The guides tell Claude to pull material from Slack, email, calendars and shared documents when it has access to them through connectors. Without that access, it asks you for the points to cover and does the formatting.

When to use it

  • Your team's Friday update, written from your notes in a consistent shape.
  • A monthly all-company digest.
  • A starting point for your own comms skill: copy the folder and replace the guides with your company's formats.

For a longer report as a Word file, pair it with the Word skill. Our business prompts and productivity prompts cover meeting notes and summaries in any chat.

How to install it

Claude.ai: the anthropics/skills README says its example skills are already available on paid plans. Check Customize > Skills, with code execution turned on.

Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
/plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skills

Example request

Try it
Write a 3P update for the [team name] team for [date range].
Notes: [what shipped, what is next, what is blocked, with numbers]

Limits

  • The formats are Anthropic's. The 3P guide, for example, opens every update with an emoji. Edit the guide files if your company writes differently.
  • It writes only what it is given or can read. Without connectors, the quality depends on your notes.
  • Anthropic labels the repository's skills as demonstrations and advises testing them before relying on them.

FAQ

What is a 3P update?

A short team update in three parts: Progress, Plans and Problems, usually covering one week.

Can I change the formats?

Yes. The formats live in plain markdown files in the skill's examples folder, and the license allows editing.
